Integrating the ARTS with Literacy

How can the ‘ARTS’ integrate into your teaching? The focus will be on integrating the arts through literacy from the beginning of making letters, to words, to rhymes and stories. Participants will learn simple theater games, music and memory techniques, creative movement and dance exercises and visual arts exploration. This will be an ACTIVE workshop! So…come dressed to MOVE, DANCE and CREATE!!

How to Set Up & Run a Workshop

Dan Rothermel, author of Starting Points: How to Set Up and Run a Writing Workshop and Much More (National Middle School Association), will have attendees participate in a reading/writing workshop to “feel” and understand what students go through when they write. In addition, participants will learn the routines and the structures that make writing possible in active classroom. Finally, participants will work in self-selected groups to create a reading/writing workshop that is ready-to-go in September.

The Great Books Foundation

Great Books Professional Development offers concrete, step-by-step instruction in how to use Shared Inquiry discussion and interpretive activities with Junior Great Books materials or with your own materials. The training prepares you to begin leading Shared Inquiry activities with students of all ability levels. Great Books professional development is one of only five programs to earn a place, at all three grade spans, on the National Staff Development Council’s “What Works” list. The training is a ten hour program which will take place over the course of two days.
