Welcome!
Young School
Realizing Hopes and Dreams Depends on “Us”
Principal: Dr. Peter E. Harrison

Welcome! We believe that your active participation in the education of your child is critical to the success that he/she will experience as a learner at Young School.
  • Volunteer...Check with your child’s classroom teacher about volunteer opportunities. There are many ways that you can participate in making school a great experience for every child! Please don’t hesitate! Our telephone number is 284-7053.
  • Create a rich learning environment at home. Structure a time for school related work when your child’s number of distractions are minimal (i.e. Turn off the t.v., identify a space in the house that is for study, et. al.). You can do this by creating a home schedule that provides for a “pause for school work”. This “pause” is a great opportunity for you to model how you value studying! You may read a book, work on a special project, or complete research. We recommend that every child gets a necessary “recess” from school. For example, outdoor play is a great way to invigorate the soul, body, and mind, before your child completes the day’s school related assignments.
  • Value the work that your child does at school. “Thursday Folder” (green folders come home with most students on Thursdays) presents an opportunity for you to review what is happening at school with your child. In the folders, we provide you with samples of your child’s work, a classroom newsletter, and other matters of business.

Grand Opening! Your children have adjusted very well during the first few days of school! We appreciate the fact that you have entrusted us with the responsibility of guiding your child through the educational experience at Young School. With the help of students and parents, we have developed a document that assists us with this most important work, as follows:

Young School
Shared Statement of Commitment

Young School is committed to building a collaborative learning community of students, parents, and school staff.

Our school community respects the differences among learners and responds to their individual needs. We provide a safe and nurturing environment that promotes intellectual, social, emotional, and physical achievement.

We encourage the development of our core values, including honesty, respect, responsibility, compassion, citizenship, and fairness; and we celebrate our success in this endeavor.
